W4FSU Regional Update

By: Chelsea Shackelford

We never imagined we'd be continuing to host virtual events into spring 2021. However, it presented an excellent opportunity for Women for Florida State University to engage alumnae, faculty, staff and prospective members from each of our five regions while also facilitating connections with women outside our hosted areas.

Our regional liaisons kicked off the new year with a virtual gathering of more than 20 women discussing what it means to be a member of W4FSU, how to get involved, learning about our signature Backstage Pass event and why our support for the Women's Leadership Institute is so critical.

Additionally, we hosted a virtual coffee hour in February and a "Stay at Homecoming" event in April for those unable to travel to Tallahassee for the spring Homecoming weekend.

After each event, we surveyed those who could attend to collect feedback that will assist us in creating new events both members and future members will find engaging. Below are some of the responses we received when asked what they enjoyed most about the event:

  • "The networking breakout rooms, which allowed me to deepen my connections and meet new people."
  • "Learning what W4FSU is really about."
  • "The connections!"
  • "Getting to know new women and hearing their stories! Especially hearing about the challenges they've faced or are dealing with in their various fields and careers."
  • "Connecting with alumnae in other cities."

While we're excited to move into a future where in-person events will resume, we plan to continue hosting periodic virtual events where members of each region can come together.

In the meantime, you can view recordings of past events at w4fsu.org/event. We cannot wait to see you all at an upcoming event in your city this fall!
